Uniswap Records 86% Weekly Swap Surge as Fee Growth Lags Behind Activity

Record Swap Volume, Steady Fee Growth

Uniswap's weekly swap volume surged 86 percent to 40 million transactions, surpassing the record the protocol set only one week prior. Unique daily swappers reached approximately 147,000, indicating broad-based user growth rather than a concentrated burst of trading activity.

Cumulative fees paid to the protocol rose from roughly $17 million in early June to over $33 million by late August. However, fee growth trailed the 86 percent weekly explosion in swap count, suggesting a meaningful shift in underlying trading patterns.

Smaller Trades Drive Higher Volume

The divergence between transaction count and fee accumulation points to a change in user behavior. While more traders entered the protocol, they made fewer large position trades, resulting in trade activity outpacing the dollar value flowing through each individual swap.

V3 pools continue to process the majority of swaps, but V4's growing contribution indicates increasing adoption of newer infrastructure. Activity across Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, and other deployments shows that Uniswap's usage is becoming less concentrated on a single network.

Whale Accumulation Reduces Exchange Supply

Binance's largest users withdrew an average of 7,400 UNI daily in late May, reducing immediately available exchange supply. This accumulation began before UNI reversed from $2.48 and rallied approximately 122 percent to $5.14.

Rather than selling into that recovery, large holders continued moving tokens off the exchange. Monthly withdrawal averages currently stand at around 5,300 UNI per day, a level that continues to limit potential sell-side pressure.

Outlook

The combination of record user activity, steady fee growth, and sustained whale accumulation has strengthened the protocol's economic model. Whether these factors will extend UNI's price recovery remains dependent on whether participation levels hold through subsequent weeks.
