Uniswap [UNI] is experiencing shifting dynamics in exchange flows and institutional positioning. Binance reserves have declined to approximately 72.9 million UNI tokens following recent net withdrawals, down from a peak of around 75 million during September 2020.
The decline in exchange reserves suggests that selling pressure may be easing. In recent trading, Binance recorded net withdrawals of roughly 1.1 million UNI in a single day, with reserves continuing to fall after October 10. Reduced exchange reserves typically mean less immediate supply available for sale, potentially limiting downward price pressure.
UNI's price has declined below $7.30, trading near $7.25 at the time of the analysis. The metric tracking exchange inflows, known as the Z-Score, reached nearly 10 as UNI rebounded toward $7, raising concerns about potential distribution. However, if deposit rates continue to decline, it would suggest distributions are slowing and support for the price recovery is strengthening.
Institutional Positioning
Grayscale's DeFi Fund, which tracks institutional exposure to decentralized finance assets, showed increased allocation to Uniswap as of October 16. UNI represented the largest holding at 38.15%, a 4% increase from the fund's 34% allocation in August.
Other major holdings in the fund included Aave [AAVE] at 20.17%, Ondo [ONDO] at 18.53%, and Ethena [ENA] at 15.90%. The declining percentage allocations of AAVE and ONDO indicate a shift in their relative exposures within the fund.
Despite Grayscale's increased UNI allocation, this does not necessarily confirm fresh institutional buying, as it may reflect changes in relative weightings rather than new capital entry.
Outlook
For UNI to sustain a price recovery, continued buying demand remains essential. While declining exchange reserves suggest easing sell-side pressure, the recovery will depend on whether this reduced liquidity can attract sustained buyer interest.
