US Treasury Buybacks and Liquidity Push Bitcoin and Crypto Markets Higher

Digital asset markets experienced upward momentum following US Treasury moves to double certain long-dated bond buybacks. The development prompted discussions regarding whether government liquidity interventions could continue to benefit risk assets.

Following the policy shift, Bitcoin jumped toward $79,000, and Ether crossed $2,400. Standard Chartered analyst Geoff Kendrick noted that Bitcoin could reach $100,000 by year-end as the Treasury expands its buyback operations for 10- to 30-year coupons through Nov. 4. Kendrick indicated that maintaining a key technical level above $65,500 is necessary to confirm the cycle low.

Corporate Treasury and Mining Strategies Expand

Tokyo-based Metaplanet announced plans to take a controlling stake in Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise to extend its Bitcoin treasury strategy to the United States. Under the deal, Metaplanet will contribute 2,100 BTC and $2.5 million in cash, and the entity will be renamed Superplanet. Shares of Super League surged following the announcement, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, Cypherpunk Technologies acquired a Zcash mining fleet from Winklevoss Capital in a $33.33 million equity transaction. The online mining operation secures approximately 18% of the network’s hashrate. Cypherpunk also holds 323,394 ZEC, representing about 1.9% of the circulating supply, with a stated target of 5% ownership.

Regulatory Focus on AI Compute Futures

In regulatory developments, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission sought public comment on futures contracts tied to artificial intelligence computing capacity. The review follows CME Group's announcement of plans to launch two compute futures contracts, pending regulatory approval. Financial estimates indicate that AI infrastructure spending accounts for roughly 2% to 2.5% of US gross domestic product this year.
