Venice.ai has launched DIEM, an ERC-20 token that earns daily AI inference credits when staked inside a Venice account, the private AI inference platform announced on August 20, 2025. Under the stated model, one staked DIEM equals $1 worth of daily API inference credits, which reset every day at 00:00 UTC regardless of whether the previous day's allowance was used.
How the token works
DIEM follows the standard rulebook used by most Ethereum-compatible tokens and lives on Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network, so transactions settle on a cheaper, faster chain than Ethereum mainnet. The minimum stake required to earn spendable credits is 0.1 DIEM, which at the stated ratio works out to a dime of daily inference.
The token is not confined to Venice's platform. It can be bought and sold on secondary markets such as Aerodrome, a decentralized exchange on Base.
The VVV connection and supply math
DIEM is built on top of VVV, which serves as the foundational token layer of the Venice platform. Users who stake VVV receive emissions, and those emissions allow them to mint DIEM.
Supply is tight by crypto standards. DIEM's current supply sits at approximately 36,500 tokens, against an initial cap of 38,000. That ceiling is set to rise to 40,000 tokens, with the pace of new minting tied to how much VVV is being staked.
Venice has also been tightening the tap on VVV itself, with the token's annual inflation reduced to 2 million tokens over recent periods. For context on scale, if every one of the roughly 36,500 DIEM tokens were staked, the network would dispense about $36,500 worth of inference credits per day.
Why Venice is doing this
The launch fits a broader strategic shift at Venice.ai toward what it frames as tokenized intelligence. The stated goal is twofold: give users predictable AI budgets and plug those budgets directly into on-chain economies. With DIEM, a user pays once to acquire the token and the daily credit allowance is fixed. More capacity requires acquiring more DIEM; less capacity can be met by selling it.
What it means for developers and holders
For developers, the clearest benefit is budgeting. A startup running an AI-powered app can calculate its daily inference ceiling in advance rather than guessing at usage and hoping the bill cooperates.
The tradeoff is exposure to token price swings. A DIEM bought at one price may be worth more or less later, so the cost of those credits depends on market conditions, not just on Venice's pricing.
For VVV stakers, DIEM adds a second layer of utility: staking VVV now feeds into a product with a defined daily output. The reduced VVV inflation matters here too, as a slower emissions schedule limits how quickly new DIEM can enter circulation.
Open questions
Several factors remain unresolved. Trading liquidity on Aerodrome will determine how easily users can enter and exit positions. There is also dependency risk, since DIEM's value is tied to Venice continuing to honor $1 of daily credits per staked token. Things to watch include whether supply actually reaches the 40,000-token cap and how much VVV ends up staked to mint it.
