Visa and Mastercard announced commercial stablecoin funding routes on October 15, offering eligible businesses new methods to finance cross-border payments.
Visa identified Inyo Global, a payments infrastructure provider, as its first commercial enabler for USDC prefunding of Visa Direct cross-border payouts. The capability is available to eligible Visa Direct clients and partners, including money transmitters, fintechs, banks, and payment businesses. Through Inyo's integration, these entities can prefund cross-border payouts with USDC in near real time using the same APIs they currently use, with funding available around the clock.
Mastercard's approach operates through BVNK, a stablecoin infrastructure firm. The Mastercard Global Money Platform combines fiat and stablecoin accounts with conversion and payout capabilities. Businesses can draw on stablecoin balances—including USDC and OUSD—to make payments in recipients' local currencies, with Mastercard Move providing the local bank payout connection.
Businesses can contract directly with BVNK through its portal or API, or embed accounts and payments under their own brand with BVNK managing customer onboarding. Nuvei and Marqeta are identified as among the first integrators of the platform.
Mastercard expects payout coverage to expand to more than 40 currencies across more than 200 countries and territories in 2027. The immediate effect for participating businesses is an additional funding option for payments that ultimately reach conventional bank accounts.
