Visa Survey: Nearly Half of Asia Pacific Consumers Plan to Use Stablecoins by 2031

Visa released survey findings showing significant growth in stablecoin adoption plans among Asia Pacific consumers. According to the Visa Consumer 360 study, conducted in June and July 2026, 46% of respondents aged 18 to 65 across 14 markets are likely to use stablecoins in the next five years, compared with 16% who used them in the past 12 months.

Awareness of stablecoins stands at 66% across the region, though only 6% of consumers demonstrate an accurate understanding of how they work.

Consumer interest clusters around specific use cases. Forty-nine percent of respondents believe stablecoins could become common for international money movement within five years, while other primary interests include online purchases and travel spending.

Regional Variations

Awareness levels vary significantly by market, with Hong Kong leading at 84%, followed by India at 80% and Thailand at 77%. Intent to use is strongest in Vietnam and India, both at 67%.

Barriers to Adoption

Trust and understanding remain substantial obstacles to wider adoption. Thirty-eight percent of non-users cited concerns about fraud and scams, while 36% pointed to a lack of understanding as a deterrent.

When considering stablecoin providers, consumers show a preference for regulated entities. Twenty-seven percent indicated they would trust government or central bank providers, while 26% preferred banks or other regulated financial institutions.

Visa's Strategy

Nischint Sanghavi, Head of Digital Currencies at Visa for Asia Pacific, stated that the company is focused on integrating stablecoin technology into familiar payment experiences. According to Sanghavi, the goal is to help stablecoins become a natural extension of existing payment systems that consumers already trust, rather than introducing them as a separate technology.
