White Hats Transfer Rescued Bitcoin to Trust Following Coldcard Vulnerability

White-hat rescuers have transferred Bitcoin recovered from wallets exposed by a Coldcard vulnerability to a trust established to return the funds to their rightful owners.

According to an X post on Monday by Galaxy Digital head of research Alex Thorn, a total of 52.37 Bitcoin was moved to an address controlled by the Wyoming-based Crypto Recovery Trust. Approximately 40% of the Bitcoin associated with the second wave was swept by white hats to safeguard the victims' funds.

Thorn noted that 3.0134 BTC included in the transfer originated from addresses that Galaxy had not previously tracked. While presumed to be rescued from wallets impacted by the Coldcard flaw, Galaxy could not independently confirm the origin of those specific funds.

Nick Bax, a security researcher and SEAL 911 incident responder, stated on Sept. 9 that he helped rescue about 50 Bitcoin at the end of July because the assets were in imminent danger of being stolen due to the Coldcard entropy flaw.

Thorn referenced a published total of 1,830 BTC across 9,162 addresses linked to the Coldcard vulnerability. Individuals who believe they may be affected can check the Crypto Recovery Trust website by entering their wallet addresses to see if the trust currently controls their funds.
