Wintermute Launches Armitage Vault Curation Service on Morpho

Wintermute, a major cryptocurrency market maker, has launched a new vault curation service called Armitage on the Morpho lending protocol. The service debuted on May 19, 2026, with two USDC-denominated vaults and has grown to $145 million in total deposits by early October 2026, positioning it among the top vault curators on Morpho by assets under management.

How Armitage Operates

Armitage functions as a capital routing system within Morpho's vault layer. Depositors place assets into a vault, and Wintermute as curator determines which underlying lending markets receive those assets, manages rebalancing, and handles liquidations when collateral values decline. This allows depositors to avoid making individual allocation decisions.

The initial offering comprised two USDC vaults: Prime, which focuses on conservative, blue-chip collateral, and Select, which includes markets with higher yield potential alongside moderate-risk options. Wintermute expanded the lineup in September 2026 by adding USDT vaults with target annual yields between 3 and 5 percent. The firm also operates a confidential Wrapped Bitcoin vault and maintains collaborative vaults within the Pendle ecosystem.

The core vaults carry no management or performance fees at launch. Deposits and withdrawals are non-custodial, processed directly through Morpho's smart contracts, and do not require KYC verification.

Market Maker Advantage

Wintermute's entry into vault curation leverages its existing trading infrastructure, particularly for liquidation handling. While most vault curators depend on third-party liquidators when a borrower's collateral falls below required thresholds, Wintermute manages liquidations internally using real-time data. This structural advantage allows Armitage to support collateral types that other curators may avoid due to liquidation risk.

Morpho's isolated market architecture means each lending market maintains separate risk parameters rather than pooling risk across assets, preventing problems in one market from cascading across the platform. Wintermute CEO Evgeny Gaevoy has identified the integration of trading expertise in on-chain environments as a core rationale for the launch, a perspective echoed by Morpho CEO Paul Frambot, who noted that the combination of active allocation and internal liquidation capability creates a distinct risk-yield profile within the curator ecosystem.
