MoonPay's ecosystem includes more than 30 million registered accounts, which now have another route into WisdomTree's tokenized offerings, including the Government Money Market Digital Fund, WTGXX.
Simplifying Entry Into Tokenized Products
Tokenization represents existing financial products using blockchain infrastructure to track ownership and distribution. While the concept is straightforward, adoption has been hindered by the friction of traditional onboarding processes.
Opening bank accounts, transferring money to crypto wallets, and navigating blockchain transactions create barriers for ordinary users. By integrating card and bank-transfer infrastructure, MoonPay enables WisdomTree to offer tokenized products through an onboarding experience comparable to standard fintech applications.
This accessibility matters for tokenized funds to expand beyond crypto-native investors.
Money Market Funds as a Primary Use Case
Money market funds represent one of the clearest early applications for tokenization. They are relatively simple, highly liquid, and backed by established financial assets. The blockchain layer offers potential benefits including faster settlement, programmable ownership, and easier integration with digital wallets.
WTGXX is a regulated money market fund, not a new stablecoin. It uses blockchain infrastructure for ownership representation and distribution.
WisdomTree is not alone in pursuing tokenized fund opportunities. BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and other large asset managers are all experimenting with tokenized cash and Treasury products. Competition in the sector is now shifting toward distribution channels, as simply tokenizing a fund is insufficient without providing users a simple way to purchase it.
