World Chain has completed the Karst network upgrade, which went live at 12:00 UTC on September 21 at Unix timestamp 1789992000. The upgrade introduces new software requirements for node operators running the OP Stack-based network.
Node operators must update to op-geth v1.101701.0 or newer and op-node v1.16.9 or newer to remain synchronized with the upgraded network. Operators who continue running incompatible older versions risk diverging from the canonical chain and falling out of consensus.
End users do not need to take any action in response to the upgrade. No token migration, wallet update, or changes to transaction processes are required for ordinary wallet holders.
Infrastructure vs. User Impact
The Karst upgrade illustrates the distinction between network maintenance and user experience. While the chain continues to function normally for end users, validators and infrastructure providers must actively manage software version requirements to maintain network participation.
For node operators, missing the required software update creates a genuine consensus problem and represents a meaningful operational event, even though most users will not notice any change in functionality.
Maturation of OP Stack Upgrades
World Chain is built on the OP Stack framework, which has developed an increasingly mature release process for execution clients, rollup nodes, and protocol upgrades. Karst demonstrates how network upgrades have become routine infrastructure work rather than user-facing feature launches.
The upgrade is now active on World Chain mainnet, and the updated software requirements are mandatory for node operators who wish to remain on the network.
