World, the identity project operated by Tools for Humanity, expanded its biometric verification services on October 16, 2026, making two major announcements: World ID for Zoom is now generally available through the Zoom App Marketplace, and a new suite of identity tools has been rolled out for banks and other regulated industries.
Both offerings share the same core function: verifying that a person on screen is a real human and the correct individual.
How Zoom Verification Works
The World ID integration with Zoom had been in beta testing since April 2026. The tool performs what World calls real-time "Proof of Human" verification during live meetings using a three-way cryptographic match.
The verification process compares three images: a reference image from the user's iris scan at a World Orb device, a selfie taken on the user's device, and the live video frame from the Zoom call. When all three match, the participant receives a "Verified Human" badge in the meeting.
The collaboration between World and Zoom began through the Zoom ISV Exchange Program, which supports independent software vendors building applications on the platform.
Tools for Banks and Regulated Industries
World introduced a separate full-stack identity infrastructure suite targeting regulated industries. Early design partners include Bain Capital, OpenExchange, Outtake, and VanEck Funds.
The suite is designed to complement existing Know Your Customer (KYC) processes rather than replace them, providing an additional privacy-preserving verification layer. World highlighted wire transfers and executive approvals as key use cases where biometric verification can prevent fraud.
Background
World began as Worldcoin, a project combining a cryptocurrency token with a global iris-scanning initiative using custom devices called Orbs. The verification system has enrolled millions of users. The latest protocol version, World ID 4.0, emphasizes enterprise requirements and security, with the Zoom launch and banking suite representing the commercial applications of this upgrade.
