Social media platform X is reportedly testing trade buttons that would allow users to trade cryptocurrencies directly from charts within posts. Former X product head Nikita Bier indicated that the feature is still in the testing phase with no confirmed launch date, and could potentially support assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, ZEC, and XLM by building on the platform's Smart Cashtags feature.
Uncertainty remains regarding how the functionality will operate. Bier clarified that X will not handle the actual trades or act as a broker. Instead, the buttons are expected to direct users to an external platform to complete transactions, operating similarly to X's existing integration with Wealthsimple in Canada.
Blockchain coverage details remain unconfirmed. While Bier referenced Solana and Ethereum, Solana previously noted that the launch supports Solana tokens through partners including Dialect, Helius, Jupiter, and Birdeye. X has not yet published an official and complete list of supported networks.
The development aligns with the expansion of X Money, the platform's payment system rolled out to U.S. Premium and Premium+ users on July 27. X Money offers features such as up to 6% APY, 3% cashback, a Visa card, and FDIC coverage of up to $10 million through a cash-sweep program provided by Cross River, though its current product page does not reference cryptocurrency or brokerage services.
Following statements from Bier regarding macroeconomic factors and the broader market, cryptocurrency total market capitalization moved to $2.65 trillion, while Bitcoin traded at $78,863, Ethereum at $2,455, and Solana at $96.48.
