Xpeng’s robotics unit secures over $900 million in funding at $6.3 billion valuation

Chinese electric‑vehicle manufacturer Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) announced that its robotics business has raised over $900 million in a financing round that values the unit at $6.3 billion. The round was led by IDG Capital and included participation from Tencent and Alibaba.

The capital will be used to spin off the robotics assets into a separate subsidiary named Dogotix and to advance the IRON humanoid robot toward mass production by the end of 2026, with commercial deliveries planned for 2027 in China and overseas markets.

Funding details

Of the total amount raised, $600 million came from external investors, while $200 million was contributed by an Xpeng subsidiary. The company’s CEO He Xiaopeng and co‑president Brian Gu supplied the remaining $100 million. Xpeng will retain roughly 82 % of Dogotix, a stake that could decline to about 68.41 % after the exercise of warrants and incentives.

Robotics strategy

Xpeng describes itself as a “Physical AI company” that develops humanoid robots, robotaxis and flying vehicles. Early IRON units will be deployed in Xpeng’s showrooms and factories for testing and refinement before external sales begin. The IRON robot features 76 degrees of freedom, with 21 degrees of freedom per hand, and is powered by three in‑house Turing AI chips delivering a combined 2,250 TOPS of computing power.

The company aims to produce more than 1,000 robots per month initially, scaling to a target of 1 million units per year by 2030. Xpeng cites its existing automotive supply chain and manufacturing facilities as a competitive advantage over rivals such as Tesla’s Optimus robot.

Financial context

In the second quarter of 2026, Xpeng’s automotive segment reported a net loss of 1.34 billion yuan ($199.4 million), 179 % higher than the same period a year earlier, while revenue grew 8 % to 19.7 billion yuan and vehicle deliveries reached 103,295 units, up 64.8 % from the prior quarter.

The financing agreement includes a seven‑year timeline for Dogotix to complete a qualified IPO; failure to do so could trigger a buyback provision with investors receiving either their original investment plus 8 % annual compound interest or 120 % of the paid amount, whichever is higher. The conditions have not yet been satisfied, and XPEV shares fell 2.38 % to $11.90 in pre‑market trading following the announcement.
