XRP futures trading volume has recovered to $68 billion in October, climbing from an all-time low of $38 billion in July and $65 billion in September. The rebound marks recovery after eight consecutive months of decline from a peak of nearly $120 billion in November 2025.
Binance led the recovery with $34.57 billion in trading volume, followed by Bybit at $13.58 billion and OKX at $12.25 billion. The concentration among major exchanges underscores their role in driving renewed activity in XRP derivative products.
Spot Volume Lags Behind Futures Activity
Despite the futures rebound, spot trading volume remains substantially lower at approximately $470 million compared to futures volume of $2.7 billion. This disparity suggests traders are significantly more active in leveraged contracts than in direct XRP purchases. Open interest in futures stands at roughly $2.9 billion, indicating substantial positions remain exposed to price volatility.
Stablecoin Liquidity Concerns on XRPL
Total stablecoin capitalization on the XRP Ledger has declined 11.88% over the past 30 days to $1.069 billion. A significant portion of this decrease stems from Ripple USD (RLUSD) treasury rebalancing toward Ethereum rather than capital withdrawal.
Stablecoins provide critical liquidity for XRPL trading and settlements. With RLUSD representing 91.48% of remaining stablecoin supply, the ecosystem shows heavy reliance on a single funding source. While a 6.91% liquidity increase occurred over seven days, recent daily declines signal fragility in the ledger's infrastructure.
The Sustainability Question
The disconnect between futures activity and spot buying raises questions about whether current speculative interest will generate sustained demand for XRP. Sustained recovery requires renewed inflows of stablecoins to support broader network activity alongside growing direct purchase volume.
