A brief drop in validator support has delayed the activation of an XRP Ledger bug fix from Oct. 23 to Nov. 4, after the required 14-day approval period was reset.
Validators are the independent servers that agree on which transactions count. Changing the network's rules requires backing from more than 80% of the 35 validators the network trusts by default, or 29 validators. Support is checked roughly every 15 minutes and must hold at every check for 14 consecutive days. A single miss, even briefly, resets the countdown to zero.
The fix, called fixCleanup3_4_0, had exactly 29 votes on Monday, with activation scheduled for 09:34 UTC on Oct. 23. At a checkpoint at 12:54 UTC on Wednesday, only 26 validators were voting yes, according to XRPL Dashboard. By 14:46 UTC, the count had returned to 29 and a new countdown began. XRPLWin now lists the fix as going live at 14:46 UTC on Nov. 4.
Support has since risen to 31 of 35 trusted validators, two more than the 29 needed to maintain the network's approval threshold. The fix heads into its second approval run with two votes to spare, compared with zero the first time.
The patch closes a token-creation loophole and adjusts vault and lending calculations. However, the broader lending system has not secured enough validator support to begin its own activation countdown.
