The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is in overdrive as it undergoes a liquidity paradigm shift, with stablecoin supply recently accelerating after a prolonged period of stagnation.
Per DeFiLlama data, total stablecoin capitalization climbed to $762 million, representing a 22% increase in recent weeks, following much of 2025 spent below the $100 million mark. As a result, the XRPL ranks 15th by stablecoin supply.
More notably, Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin has taken the driver’s seat in this upward trajectory, with the bigger picture pointing to a structural change in how XRPL is being used, from a chain characterized by light, transient liquidity into one increasingly supported by deeper, more persistent on-ledger capital.
For most of 2025, stablecoin activity on XRPL stagnated, with liquidity frequently moving in and out rather than staying on-chain. This started to change around November, when supply broke above $200 million and entered a sustained upward trend that has carried into 2026.
Through the XRP Ledger’s Lens
The implications for the XRPL ecosystem go beyond what meets the eye. Stablecoins are the backbone of settlement liquidity in digital markets, enabling trading, payments, and remittances without exposure to volatility.
 
As liquidity deepens, networks typically benefit from tighter spreads, improved execution, and more efficient value transfer.
Furthermore, RLUSD’s growing dominance is a telling sign, as more USD liquidity is now being issued and circulated natively on XRPL rather than relying on external stablecoin ecosystems. This internalization strengthens settlement rails and reduces friction for both institutional and retail use cases.
What’s the writing on the wall? Well, the XRPL is gradually evolving from a payments-focused ledger into a network defined by deeper capital formation. If current momentum persists, stablecoins like RLUSD may become the core layer reshaping how value moves, and how long it stays, within the ecosystem.
