The XRP Ledger Foundation's CTO Denis Angell has proposed a potential integration between X Money and XRP that would allow users to transfer funds from the payments platform into the token and access yield-generating features on the XRP Ledger.
Angell's vision extends beyond simple cryptocurrency payment support. He envisions a connection between X's wallet product and XRPL's lending and asset-management capabilities, enabling users to move between a consumer payment account and on-chain financial products.
How the Integration Could Work
"If with X Money you can transfer from your X Money account right into XRP and then use the primitive on the XRP Ledger to drive yield generation, I don't think there's anything wrong with that," Angell said.
He emphasized the importance of having an integration, onboarding system, and on-ramp and off-ramp to XRP within the X social app.
XRPL's Current Financial Features
Angell pointed to existing developments on the XRP Ledger designed to bring traditional financial functions onto the blockchain. These include a lending protocol currently on the network and a single asset vault feature, which he compared to a mutual fund where users deposit assets into a pool and strategies built on top can generate yield.
The broader objective, Angell explained, is to incorporate "TradFi primitives into the protocol" rather than relying solely on smart contracts, potentially including financial products such as stocks, bonds, and options.
Current State of X Money
X Money currently operates exclusively with fiat currency. The platform functions as a fiat-based wallet allowing users to hold balances, send free transfers to other X Money users, receive direct deposits, and spend through a Visa debit card while earning up to 6% annual yield and cashback.
X Money launched to Premium+ subscribers in June before expanding to additional paid users by late July. The platform has not added cryptocurrency or stablecoin support since its launch. While Elon Musk mentioned the possibility of crypto integration in March, no such features have been implemented, though reports suggest discussions have occurred regarding paying creators on the social platform in stablecoins.
