Stablecoins on the XRP Ledger have reached $1.126 billion in total value as XRP posted a 29.7% monthly gain, expanding the network's potential role in facilitating cross-asset trades. However, analysts note that the growth in network activity does not yet confirm meaningful demand for XRP as a bridge asset.
As of September 11, XRP traded near $1.32, down 8.7% over the preceding seven days. XRPL's decentralized-exchange volume hit $253.1 million over the latest complete 30-day window, more than double the prior period's $100.4 million. Seven-day volume, however, declined to $30.6 million from $41.1 million.
Stablecoin Base Expands Faster Than Visible Bridge Infrastructure
DefiLlama's XRPL stablecoin index rose from $921.9 million on August 12 to $1.126 billion on September 11, a 22.2% increase. The monthly DEX volume surge of 152.1% contrasts with the recent weekly decline, reflecting stronger activity earlier in the 30-day measurement window.
One observed XRP/RLUSD automated market maker held approximately $4.6 million in combined reserves, representing roughly 0.41% of the tracked stablecoin total. This visible bridge liquidity sits substantially below the broader stablecoin base, indicating a significant gap between issued assets and dedicated XRP inventory.
Routing Economics Determine XRP's Role
The XRPL's auto-bridging system connects issued-token trades through XRP when the combined route offers better pricing than direct pairs. However, direct trading routes can bypass XRP entirely, and the mechanism provides no exclusive claim on intermediation activity.
Transaction fees on XRPL require minimal XRP consumption at current prices, making liquidity provision the primary demand driver. The existing aggregate datasets—stablecoin supply, DEX volume, and pool reserves—do not reveal the specific paths taken by individual trades or how long market makers retain XRP positions.
Sustained token demand would require evidence of deepening XRP-linked pools alongside stablecoin turnover, routing data showing XRP winning price comparisons consistently, and inventory metrics indicating market makers hold meaningful XRP exposure rather than recycling it immediately. Until such measures appear, the expanding stablecoin market represents a larger opportunity for XRP liquidity rather than confirmed demand.
