XRP's Role as Native Asset and Market Bridge on XRPL Explained

XRPL validator Vet has outlined XRP's significance within the XRP Ledger ecosystem, arguing that its value extends beyond market price considerations.

In recent comments, Vet addressed questions about XRP adoption and the relationship between tokenized asset growth on the network and XRP's price performance. He contended that these concerns overlook the XRPL's broader design as a multi-asset network that has supported different assets since 2012.

XRP's Function in Trading and Network Operations

According to Vet, XRP serves two primary roles within the ecosystem. First, it functions as an intermediary asset through the XRPL's auto-bridging feature on the DEX. This allows XRP to connect trades between different assets, potentially enabling more efficient trading routes when direct trading pairs lack sufficient liquidity.

Second, XRP supports the network's core operations. Users require it to pay transaction fees and meet account reserve requirements, making it integral to the ledger's infrastructure.

XRP as Neutral Money

Vet emphasized that XRP differs fundamentally from issued tokens on the network. As the XRPL's native asset, XRP does not depend on an issuer for its existence. Unlike issuer-controlled tokens that support freezing mechanisms, XRP cannot be frozen at the protocol level, giving it a neutral position within the ecosystem.

Vet characterized this distinction by stating that XRP functions as money without dependence on a central issuer to authorize its use.

Adoption Over Price Appreciation

Regarding XRP's price performance, Vet argued that the priority should be building a useful network that attracts users and businesses. He suggested that price appreciation should follow increased network usage and acceptance rather than serve as the primary measure of the network's success.

At the time of reporting, XRP was trading at $1.32, representing a decline of 65.61% from its previous all-time high of $3.84.
