August proved volatile for XRP after the token dipped below $1.00 for the first time in nearly two years early in the month. However, a rapid recovery followed, with XRP surging 70% in less than 72 hours between August 19 and August 22, reaching a multi-month peak of $1.70.
The rebound was fueled by broader market recovery, a return of ETF inflows, and whale accumulation. XRP finished August up approximately 33% for the month, according to CryptoRank data.
Historical September Patterns
Historical data shows September has generally favored XRP. Past Septembers have delivered gains, with increases ranging from 0.42% in 2023 to 94.4% in 2013. The years 2016, 2018, and 2022 also saw significant September rallies of 47%, 73%, and over 46% respectively.
According to analyst commentary, Septembers in even-numbered years have historically been more bullish for the asset. Additionally, when August closes in the green, September follows suit 66.7% of the time, compared to almost 86% of Septembers turning red after negative Augusts.
Regulatory Developments Ahead
Attention will focus on cryptocurrency legislation in September as the US Senate reconvenes after its August recess. The CLARITY Act, which previously failed to advance, is expected to be revisited as soon as September 15. XRP has been sensitive to developments on crypto legislation, with positive movement on regulatory bills potentially supporting further gains.
