Y Combinator is actively seeking crypto startups to tackle three interconnected financial challenges: making AI fundraising more accessible, expanding stablecoin banking services, and building trading infrastructure for autonomous agents, according to its October request for founders announced by visiting partner Nemil Dalal on October 28.
The accelerator frames AI investment as one of the largest capital-raising events in human history and points to Ethereum's initial coin offering as a precedent for blockchain-based fundraising models. YC is asking founders to develop new approaches to AI capital raising while leaving the financing structure open-ended.
Stablecoin and Banking Focus
YC's funding interests include dollar stablecoin products targeting underserved customer or merchant groups, stablecoins denominated in additional currencies, and neobanks serving populations with limited access to traditional banking. Global contractors, international businesses, and gaming segments are cited as potential user groups.
The accelerator emphasizes that founders must identify a specific customer segment and develop a clear distribution strategy. For neobank applicants, demonstrating effective risk management while serving an underserved demographic is essential.
Trading, Assets, and Agent Infrastructure
YC seeks exchanges and trading interfaces built around new asset classes, derivatives, or geographic markets. The accelerator's broader thesis expects new assets—including startup equity and small securities—to be issued, with corresponding trading, lending, and derivatives services developing around them.
A significant focus involves building financial infrastructure for autonomous agents. YC expects these software actors to become active market participants and traders, potentially executing trades under human direction. The accelerator wants founders to develop APIs and connections designed specifically for agents, since current financial interfaces primarily serve human developers.
YC also seeks infrastructure connecting multiple services required for agent tasks, including fiat-to-crypto conversion routes.
Application Timeline
Y Combinator's Winter 2027 batch runs from January through March in San Francisco. Applications submitted after November 2 will still be considered, though the accelerator cannot guarantee response timing for late submissions.
