Crypto investigator ZachXBT is preparing to launch a new website dedicated to handling cryptocurrency fraud cases, but access will be limited for victims in certain jurisdictions. According to the investigator, individuals from Canada, the UK, India, Nigeria, Morocco, Algeria, and Bangladesh may be blocked from receiving support on the platform.
The decision stems from what ZachXBT described as repeated difficulties when dealing with local authorities while attempting to help victims recover stolen funds. He stated that the restriction is based on his personal experience handling crypto theft cases, particularly instances where local law enforcement allegedly failed to act on provided evidence or offer adequate assistance to victims.
Criticism of Law Enforcement Responses
Canada received particularly strong criticism from the investigator. ZachXBT claimed to have handled cases where detailed reports regarding threat actors, ransomware incidents, and home-invasion robberies were provided to law enforcement—with evidence sufficient for prosecution in multiple jurisdictions—yet victims still did not receive adequate help. He also pointed to Toronto as a major fraud center where Canadian agencies have at times failed to act despite available evidence.
Similar concerns were raised regarding India and other listed nations. ZachXBT cited examples involving Indian law enforcement, including instances where authorities allegedly contacted him regarding frozen funds and cases where emails were used in attempts to unfreeze assets linked to the Lazarus Group. He also claimed that Indian authorities once arrested cryptocurrency exchange founders after mistaking a phishing website for a legitimate platform.
Reactions to the Planned Restrictions
When asked about the inclusion of Morocco and Algeria, ZachXBT expressed strong frustration with local governance and alleged that some individuals involved in home-invasion robberies originate from those regions.
The upcoming website is designed to make ZachXBT's investigative work more selective. Rather than managing every incoming request, he intends to prioritize users located in jurisdictions where authorities are viewed as more likely to respond and take action based on blockchain evidence.
The announcement drew mixed reactions from the crypto community. While some supporters argued that investigators should not expend resources on cases where local authorities refuse to cooperate, others criticized the move, contending that victims should not be denied access to assistance based on their nationality or geographic location.
