A Zcash-focused advocacy group has officially filed to lobby in Washington, marking an expansion of the privacy-oriented cryptocurrency ecosystem's efforts to influence United States digital asset policy.
Pretty Good Policy for Zcash (PGPZ) submitted a lobbying registration that became effective on October 1. The filing names executive director Divij Pandya as the organization's sole lobbyist. According to the registration, the group's current and anticipated lobbying priorities include the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act alongside two separate digital asset tax proposals.
PGPZ was launched in June following its evolution from Pretty Good Policy for Crypto, an initiative originally established in 2022 by Electric Coin Co. The prior initiative previously organized a congressional briefing on encryption technologies in 2023 and hosted Washington policy roundtables.
Paul Brigner, founder of PGPZ and chief policy and regulatory officer of ZODL, stated that the organization's objective is to establish serious, organized, and credible policy engagement for Zcash in Washington. He noted that policymakers are currently making decisions that will impact whether privacy-preserving digital cash can exist, be used lawfully, and serve the public interest, making representation essential.
Funding for the initiative was secured in August, when Zcash Community Grants approved a $750,000 grant to finance the first year of PGPZ's operations.
