Zcash (ZEC) declined approximately 8% as the broader cryptocurrency market experienced a substantial correction, pulling the privacy coin down from its recent highs. The asset had briefly exceeded $1,600 earlier in the week, marking its highest level since 2016, before retreating to roughly $1,470.
The privacy coin's impressive ascent over the past year, which saw its value increase more than 2,600%, was driven by several factors including broader market recovery, the debut of a ZEC exchange-traded product in Europe, and the launch of a spot Zcash ETF. The rally temporarily elevated ZEC's market capitalization above $25 billion, positioning it among the 10 largest digital assets.
Signs of a Market Top
Analyst Crypto Patel warned that the $1,600 to $2,000 price range may represent a local peak, citing a cup-and-handle chart pattern. The analyst noted that ZEC has displayed signs of "extreme extension from a psychological perspective" following its major advance.
In a bearish long-term outlook, Crypto Patel suggested that if ZEC enters a distribution and downtrend phase within the next 1–3 years, the price could fall below $500, with an even more severe scenario potentially seeing the asset decline to $200.
Other traders have positioned themselves for further declines. Analyst Zayn reported realizing significant gains from a short position on ZEC, with profits exceeding $60,000 at the time of reporting.
Recovery Signals
Some market participants view the recent correction as a normal pullback rather than the end of the uptrend. Recent data showed investors moving ZEC holdings from centralized exchanges to self-custody solutions, a shift that could reduce immediate selling pressure and potentially support a rebound.
