Zcash (ZEC), ranked 11th by market capitalization, has emerged as one of the strongest performers among altcoins during the recent market rally. The cryptocurrency posted an 82% gain over the last 30 days, outpacing most other leading altcoins in the top 20 category.
ZEC has extended its gains with 24-hour increases surpassing 5%, creating distance between itself and other major altcoins like DOGE. Year-to-date, the token is up 58.83%, marking the second-highest gain recorded by an altcoin in the top 25 category in 2026.
Social Activity Surge Precedes Price Momentum
Social dominance for ZEC averaged 183% above its pre-rally level in the ten days following August 19, according to data from Santiment. Social mentions peaked on August 22 with a notable 6x surge to 232 mentions, though activity declined significantly by the time trading began on the new exchange.
Spot ETF Launch Marks Inflection Point
Grayscale converted its Zcash trust into a spot ETF that began trading on NYSE Arca on August 25. In the lead-up to the launch, ZEC rallied from approximately $509 on August 18 to around $852 on August 23, gaining roughly 65% before the fund went live.
Following the peak, ZEC declined 6% to trade at $796. At the time of reporting, the token had recovered with a 5% gain over 24 hours and was trading at $844.
