On November 7, 2026, a monitoring dashboard recorded Zcash’s Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM) balance at 369.7 ZEC at block 3,547,068. The balance includes a historical seed of 368.58445520 ZEC, representing unclaimed subsidy and transaction fees from earlier network phases.
Subtracting this seed leaves 1.11895065 ZEC, or roughly 0.3% of the total, that has been accumulated under the post‑NU7 rules. These rules, defined in ZIP 237, direct 60% of each block’s transaction fees into the NSM, with the remainder retained by miners.
The NSM balance is a public accounting of value held outside the issued supply. It will be reissued as additional block subsidies starting at block 8,939,664, according to ZIP 259. Until that height is reached, the reserve grows only through fee contributions.
ZIP 237 specifies that the reserve’s only contribution mechanism under NU7 is the collection of transaction fees; other mechanisms such as ZIP 233’s removal or ZIP 234’s alternative issuance are excluded. Consequently, the 1.12 ZEC figure reflects fee contributions beyond the fixed historical seed.
When reissuance begins, a small fraction of the reserve balance will be added to each block’s scheduled subsidy, rounded up to the nearest zatoshi. The existing halving schedule will remain unchanged.
The observed snapshot provides an early measure of fee contributions but does not indicate the long‑term sustainability of the fund. Future security funding will depend on ongoing fee demand and the balance available when reissuance starts.
