Zoom enterprise customers now have access to “proof of human” badges designed to verify that individuals on video calls are genuine. The global rollout follows the integration of biometric identity technology from the Sam Altman-backed project World.
World announced on Sunday that World ID for Zoom is officially available in the Zoom Marketplace. The verification system works by comparing an image captured by the project's iris-scanning Orb, a live selfie, and the participant's video feed. Once verified, a Human Badge appears for other meeting participants to see.
The feature first saw a limited beta testing phase with VanEck Funds after World initially announced the Zoom integration in April. Alongside the global release for Zoom enterprise customers, World highlighted Bain Capital, Pantera Capital, and other financial firms as initial design partners for its broader identity verification technology.
This deployment arrives in the wake of several high-profile incidents involving artificial intelligence impersonation. In 2024, an engineering firm Arup employee transferred approximately $25 million after scammers used deepfakes to impersonate executives on a video conference. Additionally, in February, suspected North Korea-linked hackers utilized fabricated video feeds during fake Zoom meetings to trick crypto and fintech companies into installing malware.
“World ID for Zoom is designed to protect sensitive, high-stakes conversations by proving that a real and unique human is present,” World stated, according to Fortune.
