Zuri-Invest AG, an independent asset manager regulated by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), has announced the launch of its Physical Uranium Tracker with tokenized physical uranium holdings through Tezos-based xU3O8, a uranium-backed token. The new product replaces the firm’s previous uranium investment offering, the Actively Managed Certificate (AMC) on Physical Uranium.
Tokenization allows for smaller investment sizes and improved liquidity in physical uranium, a regulated commodity that normally trades only in large lots. By tokenizing its uranium inventory and holding the xU3O8 token, Zuri-Invest aims to provide a more efficient service to its clients. The firm also noted that institutional clients can perform more precise portfolio rebalancing if required.
“We believe uranium is one of the most compelling opportunities in commodities today, and our clients deserve a streamlined way to access it as efficient as the market is promising,” said Patrick Michaels, Chairman of Zuri-Invest AG. “Tokenizing our physical inventory means underlying ownership can move instantly. For Zuri-Invest, it removes much of the complexity of managing a physical commodity that trades in large increments, so we can offer clients a more investable product.”
Ben Elvidge, Head of Alternative Assets at Trilitech, added: “When it comes to tokenized assets, the challenge for institutional adoption isn’t conviction, it’s regulatory clarity and access to the right infrastructure. By tokenising its physical inventory on Tezos and enabling its clients to access uranium via xU3O8, Zuri-Invest is pioneering technology that turns a historically illiquid commodity into an asset that moves with the speed and efficiency of modern markets. Now, investors can get exposure to physical uranium at a fraction of the traditional price of entry, with the benefit of near-instant settlement and without all the costs associated with managing physical inventory.”
The launch comes amid resurgent interest in the nuclear and uranium sectors. Demand for uranium has been growing steadily in recent years, driven by factors including the rapid pace of AI development and the subsequent power demands of the sector, as well as the ongoing global transition towards more energy-efficient fuel sources. Tech giants like Oracle, Microsoft and Meta are currently directly financing new reactors to secure 24/7 power for AI, locking in additional fuel demand.
New designs within the nuclear sector, such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), and lifetime extensions across the existing nuclear power plant fleet add additional layers of uranium demand. In this environment, nuclear demand for uranium is expected to double by 2040.
However, identified supply falls short, with every known mine and project currently covering just 46% of forecasted 2040 demand. New mined supply is slow to come online due to a lack of mining development over the last decade, and high-quality resources are set to approach depletion towards the mid-2030s.
Despite the market forces driving increased demand for uranium, physical uranium has historically exhibited low correlation with broad equity markets. The new Physical Uranium Tracker from Zuri-Invest provides investors with an opportunity to build a portfolio with differentiated exposure.
