21Shares Outlines Four Reasons for XRP Investment Case Despite 2026 Challenges

Investment Case for XRP

Swiss-based asset manager 21Shares has published an analysis outlining four pillars supporting an investment case for XRP, even as the asset has faced difficult price performance in 2026.

The analysis cites regulatory clarity, institutional access, expanding XRP Ledger utility, and the token's fixed supply structure as fundamental strengths.

Regulatory Clarity and Institutional Access

21Shares identified regulatory clarity as the first pillar of its thesis, pointing to the conclusion of Ripple's long-running dispute with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in August 2025. The asset manager described this as removing a major compliance obstacle for institutional investors and improving the overall regulatory environment for XRP.

Institutional access has expanded following the launch of spot XRP exchange-traded funds in November of the previous year. These funds attracted over $1 billion in inflows within their first month and a half. Cumulative inflows have since reached an all-time high above $1.7 billion, despite challenging market conditions.

Growing Network Utility

The XRP Ledger has processed close to $500 billion in on-chain value over the past 12 months, according to the report. Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin has expanded from a market cap of $72 million to $1.6 billion in less than two years.

Tokenized assets on the XRPL have grown substantially, recently reaching $4 billion. The network continues to focus on payments, stablecoins, and real-world assets.

Predictable Supply Structure

XRP has a fixed maximum supply of 100 billion tokens with no ongoing inflation schedule. Transaction fees result in a small amount of tokens being permanently burned.

The Central Risk

21Shares identified a significant caveat: increased XRPL usage does not automatically translate to increased XRP demand. Institutions can utilize the network while holding the token only temporarily or minimally. The critical question remains whether expanding adoption will ultimately generate sustainable demand for XRP itself.

The investment thesis ultimately depends on two conditions: first, that global finance will increasingly move on-chain, and second, that this adoption will translate into actual demand for the underlying asset.
