Analyst Points to Three Technical Signals Suggesting Bitcoin Rally May Have Further to Run

Bitcoin has recovered from summer lows, prompting questions about the durability of its rally. Chart research analyst Frank Cappelleri points to three technical factors suggesting the recent advance may be early in a larger bullish move.

Breakout Patterns Show New Strength

Cappelleri's first observation concerns breakouts, instances when price rises above levels it previously struggled to clear. After three breakout patterns failed to sustain rallies between late 2025 and early 2026, a fourth breakout succeeded this summer, according to Cappelleri. He notes that failed breakouts are typical of downtrends, while successful ones followed by further gains characterize healthy uptrends. Bitcoin is up 36% over the last three months.

Historical Comparison to 2023

Cappelleri's second point draws from Bitcoin's weekly chart structure. He observes that current price patterns resemble the period from 2022 into 2023, when weekly price averages that had previously capped rallies turned upward and began supporting dips instead. He interprets this shift as a marker of markets transitioning from downtrends to uptrends.

Support From Long-Term Trend Line

Third, Bitcoin's rebound began near a rising trend line extending back to 2017. According to Cappelleri, three earlier dips toward this line preceded rallies within months, suggesting it functions as support during upward phases.

Volume and Macro Considerations

Cappelleri also notes that Bitcoin's approximately 20% August gain is noteworthy, as such moves were rare during weak market stretches. Exchange trading volume rebounded in August as well. However, macro headwinds persist. As of late September, Federal Reserve rate hike expectations for October stood at 68.1% according to CME FedWatch data. Whether Bitcoin's rally can sustain against potential rate increases remains uncertain.
