Analyst Says Bitcoin’s 26% Weekly Surge Could Signal End of Bear Market

Bitcoin traded mostly sideways on Wednesday after reaching a recent high, retaining a significant portion of its recent gains. Over a seven-day period, the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization climbed roughly 25% from around $62,700 to $79,500.

Analyst Ali Martinez noted that the size and speed of the move mirror previous market cycles. Martinez pointed to two prior instances where powerful weekly rallies emerged near the end of major bear markets. In 2019, Bitcoin recorded a weekly gain of roughly 32% during a transition away from a bearish trend. A similar pattern occurred in January 2023, when Bitcoin jumped nearly 25% in a single week following the collapse of FTX.

According to Martinez, Bitcoin's recent 26.81% weekly increase could represent a similar phenomenon. He suggested that aggressive short positioning may have fueled the rally, as rising prices forced bearish traders to close losing positions and created additional buying pressure.

"If history repeats, this type of powerful weekly reversal could be an early sign that BTC has entered a new bullish cycle," Martinez stated, adding that the move defied expectations from some participants who anticipated a major bottom later in the year based on the traditional four-year cycle.

Other market analysts offered additional perspectives on the price action. Analyst Ted Pillows highlighted that Bitcoin was approximately $2,200 away from establishing a new higher high, arguing that a successful breakout could strengthen the market structure and potentially prevent a return to the $60,000 level.

Meanwhile, analyst Celal Kucuker pointed to chart structures indicating that a fourth wave may have concluded, setting the stage for a fifth wave with a potential target of $144,000.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin traded at $78,814.
