Applied Digital Corp (NASDAQ: APLD) is reportedly securing up to 1 GW of power in Finland for a planned AI data center campus, according to a post on X. However, no public filings or official announcements from the company confirm the expansion as of early October 2026.
Finland has attracted significant AI infrastructure investment recently. Google announced a €13 billion commitment to AI infrastructure in the country in September 2026. Additionally, APL Group, a separate company from Applied Digital, operates a 100 MW hyperscale project there.
Current Operations and Capacity
Applied Digital recently completed an expansion at its Polaris Forge 1 campus, adding 75 MW of capacity and bringing the site's operational total to 250 MW. The company is targeting 400 MW at that campus by 2028.
Applied Digital reports approximately $36 billion in contracted long-term leases across five AI campuses with a combined critical IT load capacity of 1.41 GW. A Finnish campus at the reported 1 GW level would represent a significant addition relative to the company's existing contracted footprint.
Company Evolution and Growth Strategy
Applied Digital transitioned from blockchain-focused operations to purpose-built facilities for AI and high-performance computing, which it calls AI factories. The company targets long-term partnerships with investment-grade hyperscalers and large tech companies with strong credit ratings.
Applied Digital's stated growth plan points to multi-gigawatt expansion through leases and additional sites by 2031-2032. Its existing power pipeline spans North Dakota and Alabama, measured in multiple gigawatts.
What Remains Unconfirmed
An expansion of this scale would typically appear in company filings, investor presentations, or official announcements. Until Applied Digital makes an official confirmation, the Finland report remains unverified. Investors should await official company disclosure before making decisions based on the reported plans.
