Binance has expanded access to bStocks collateral functionality to all eligible users, including non-VIP accounts, according to information shared on September 21, 2026. The feature was previously restricted to VIP 3 and above users.
bStocks are tokenized securities designed to track publicly listed stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), fully backed and freely convertible 1:1 to the corresponding underlying asset. Supported bStocks can be used as collateral across Cross Margin and Portfolio Margin accounts, subject to applicable haircuts, collateral ratios, and regulatory requirements.
Since their June 2026 launch, bStocks have surpassed $30 billion in cumulative trading volume in less than 90 days.
Three Use Cases for bStocks Collateral
The expansion introduces three practical applications for bStocks holders:
- Leveraged acquisition: Users can borrow quote assets to purchase bStocks in Cross Margin or Portfolio Margin accounts with up to 5x leverage.
- Stock conversion: Existing stockholders can convert their stocks to bStocks and expand utility within the crypto ecosystem while remaining eligible for dividend distributions.
- Dual-use collateral and hedging: In a Portfolio Margin account, bStocks can serve simultaneously as collateral and as the hedge for a futures short position. A user holding Tesla bStock, for example, can borrow USDT against it while opening a TSLAUSDT futures short to hedge downside risk without posting additional collateral.
Risk Controls for Lower VIP Tiers
To protect users in lower VIP tiers, Binance has introduced additional risk controls for VIP 0 to 2 accounts holding bStocks as collateral. Accounts exceeding certain risk thresholds may face temporary restrictions, which are automatically lifted once the account returns to a safe risk level. VIP 3 and above users are exempt from these controls.
