Bitcoin Closes Q3 with Three Consecutive Gains as October Approaches

Bitcoin has completed its third consecutive month of gains in September, closing with a 6.33% increase after rebounding from mid-month lows near $75,000. The cryptocurrency entered the quarter from a July 1 low of under $58,000 and has since recovered significantly, with August delivering a 25% monthly surge.

September's performance saw Bitcoin reach $87,000 before facing selling pressure midway through the month following the failure of the CLARITY Act in the US Senate and a Federal Reserve interest rate hike. However, the cryptocurrency rebounded to hold above $80,000 for the remainder of the month.

October's Historical Context

October carries particular significance in Bitcoin's historical performance data. According to CoinGlass records dating to 2013, October has been Bitcoin's strongest-performing month, with 10 out of 13 editions showing gains and only three closing in red. This track record has fueled expectations for the coming month, particularly following three consecutive positive months.

Lacie Zhang, Research Analyst at Bitget Wallet, noted that "October has a strong historical track record for bitcoin" while cautioning that "seasonality alone is not an investment thesis." She highlighted Bitcoin's median October return of approximately 11%-14% historically.

Factors Supporting and Challenging the Outlook

Zhang identified several elements supporting a bullish case: ETF inflows, declining exchange balances, and corporate buying activity. Potential headwinds include elevated interest rates, oil prices, and renewed inflation pressure.

Analysts have noted that Bitcoin has reclaimed key resistance levels, though CryptoQuant recently warned that momentum may be slowing. Zhang outlined a base-case range of $78,000 to $95,000 for October, contingent on Bitcoin holding the $82,000 support level. A decisive break below $80,000 would, according to her analysis, undermine the seasonal bullish setup.
