Bitcoin ETFs Record $462.6 Million in Outflows as Inflation Data Shifts Market Sentiment

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $462.6 million in net outflows from September 8 to September 11, marking a sharp reversal from the previous week's $1 billion in inflows. The selling accelerated as Bitcoin declined from a high of $81,427 to trade near $77,343 amid shifting market conditions.

The outflows occurred across four trading days following the Labor Day holiday on September 7. ETF selling began with $46.6 million in outflows on September 8, followed by $120.2 million on September 9. The largest single-day outflow occurred on September 10, when investors withdrew $282.6 million as Bitcoin fell below $77,000. An additional $13.2 million left the funds on Friday, September 11.

Major Funds Lead the Selling

ARKB recorded the largest outflows at $250.3 million during the week, while GBTC lost approximately $129.1 million. IBIT saw roughly $52.5 million in outflows and FBTC recorded approximately $50.7 million. Morgan Stanley's MSBT was among the few funds to attract capital, gaining around $19.7 million.

Market Drivers

The shift in investor sentiment coincided with U.S. inflation data showing Core CPI at a five-year low of 2.4%, though hotter than expected inflation figures on September 10 raised concerns about potential Federal Reserve rate increases. With the Fed's interest rate decision scheduled for September 16, market participants are closely monitoring the central bank's next move.

Bitcoin's price decline followed its August rally as investors took profits and U.S. Treasury yields rose. Bitcoin fell from its weekly high to trade in the $76,000 to $77,343 range by week's end.
