US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $999 million in net inflows on September 21, their strongest inflow day of 2026. The surge coincided with Bitcoin breaking above $86,000 and briefly trading above $87,000, its highest level since January.
The $999 million inflow was the largest daily total since October 6, 2025, when the products attracted approximately $1.2 billion. Measured in Bitcoin holdings, the move was more pronounced, with ETFs absorbing about 11,530 BTC—their largest one-day net intake since November 11, 2024, when they added roughly 12,560 BTC.
Top Performers
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led inflows with $381.4 million, followed by $289.1 million for the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB) and $238.8 million for Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC). These three accounted for more than $909 million of the total inflow, with all six largest products contributing to the day's activity.
For IBIT, the $381 million inflow ranked as its fourth-largest daily intake on record.
Muted Trading Activity
The scale of the ETF inflows contrasted sharply with secondary-market trading volume. US spot Bitcoin ETFs traded approximately $4.5 billion during the session, slightly below the roughly $4.6 billion recorded the previous Friday—relatively ordinary turnover given Bitcoin's sharp price movement and the size of reported inflows.
Timing Questions
Bloomberg Intelligence analysts noted that much of the $1 billion inflow likely reflects trading and creation activity from the previous day, as fund flows are reported with a lag. This timing raises questions about how investors responded once Bitcoin accelerated through the $86,000 level, with subsequent disclosures expected to provide clearer insight into investor demand at higher price levels.
