Bitcoin is navigating mixed signals as it approaches a critical $82,000 resistance level. The Federal Reserve's policy outlook has emerged as a near-term headwind, with the FedWatch tool indicating an 87.3% probability of a 25 basis point rate hike, potentially raising the federal funds target rate to 375-400 basis points.
Recent market activity has introduced short-term volatility. Friday's U.S. CPI report triggered $685.5 million in liquidations across the cryptocurrency market, and Bitcoin spot ETFs have experienced outflows over the past four trading days. Binance BTC reserves have reached a 2-year high, while the Coinbase Premium Index has slipped into negative territory again.
A notable development came as Bitcoin Open Interest declined by 13.6 thousand BTC in a single day. During this period, Bitcoin rallied from $77,000 to $79,900 before retracing most of those gains within hours. According to market analysis, this liquidity flush has reduced the likelihood of a liquidation cascade by removing over-leveraged positions near current price levels.
For potential upside movement, analysts point to several indicators to monitor. A sustained positive turn in the Coinbase Premium Index would suggest increased investor demand. Similarly, exchange net position changes turning negative would signal accumulation activity. Bitcoin spot ETF net flows also represent a key metric for gauging near-term demand.
Bitcoin has yet to sustain a break above the $82,000 resistance zone. Market participants remain cautious about short-term momentum, though the recent deleveraging may provide a foundation for the next potential rally if demand indicators improve.
