Bitcoin remained confined to a narrow trading range this weekend, hovering between $77,000 and $77,400 after a volatile week that saw the cryptocurrency rejected at higher levels.
The world's largest cryptocurrency experienced significant swings earlier in the week. Following a surge to $82,400 on the first week of September—the highest level since mid-May—Bitcoin faced rejection and fell below $79,000 after the US jobs report. Price action subsequently stabilized between $80,000 and $77,600 until Thursday, when support weakened. The release of August Consumer Price Index data triggered further volatility, driving Bitcoin as low as $76,000 before buyers stepped in to recover the asset to $79,800 within an hour. Another rejection followed, and Bitcoin returned to $77,000, where it has remained relatively flat.
Bitcoin's market cap retreated to under $1.550 trillion, while its dominance over altcoins softened to 58.7%.
Altcoin Market Weakness, with Notable Exception
Most major altcoins posted minor losses on the day. Ethereum struggled to maintain ground above $2,500 after reaching nearly $2,700 on Friday. BNB declined 1.3% to $722, while XRP remained below the $1.40 level. SOL, TRX, DOGE, XMR, and LINK also posted slight losses.
Smaller-cap assets showed more movement, with CRO gaining 3%, PUMP advancing 6%, and BTW surging 11% to above $0.55.
Lisk (LSK) dominated altcoin performance with exceptional gains. The asset climbed 325% daily to reach $0.82, with weekly advances of 800%. The move elevated Lisk to the 92nd-largest cryptocurrency by market cap.
The broader cryptocurrency market cap remained stable at approximately $2.640 trillion.
