Bitcoin has closed above its 50-week moving average for a seventh consecutive week, maintaining its broader market structure despite a $6.3 billion unauthorized hot-wallet withdrawal incident disclosed by Binance.
Binance announced plans to absorb the losses utilizing its SAFU fund and corporate resources, while approximately $3 billion of the affected assets have been frozen onchain. Analytics firm Glassnode noted that the cryptocurrency's resilience indicates a significant portion of speculative excess may have already been flushed from the market.
According to Glassnode, bitcoin could pull back toward the short-term holder cost basis near $75,800 and still preserve its constructive technical setup. The asset continues to hold above its longer-term 200-week trend line and is currently around day 916 of its present halving cycle.
Market participants have highlighted the distinction between centralized infrastructure issues and bitcoin itself. Bitget Wallet Research Lead Lacie Zhang stated that while the incident serves as a major confidence shock to centralized infrastructure, holding the $76,000 to $77,000 range and reclaiming $80,000 on sustained spot demand would signal market stabilization.
Positioning data indicates that basis traders and macro-oriented investors who gained exposure during October 2025 market highs have reduced their ETF and futures positions by more than half, while longer-term holders have largely maintained their positions. Meanwhile, persistent U.S. fiscal deficits and elevated borrowing costs continue to support the long-term narrative around monetary debasement and hard assets.
