Bitcoin is slowly recovering from a significant correction that followed a major security incident in the crypto markets. The asset is currently working to reclaim the $78,000 level after trading as low as $76,100 in recent days.
Bitcoin's Recent Price Action
Bitcoin faced rejection at $85,000 on October 21, marking the start of a deeper correction. The asset fell to $79,200 last Saturday before attempting several recoveries throughout the week. A brief surge to nearly $82,000 occurred on Tuesday and early Wednesday ahead of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy meeting, but the asset retreated following the announcement that interest rates would remain unchanged.
The broader crypto market was shaken when Binance disclosed it had fallen victim to a significant security breach with losses exceeding $6 billion. Bitcoin reacted sharply, dropping to $76,400 in the immediate aftermath. A minor bounce brought it to $76,300 before it dipped further to a six-week low of $76,100.
Since that low, Bitcoin has recovered nearly $2,000 and is currently approaching $78,000. Its market capitalization stands at $1.560 trillion, with Bitcoin's dominance over altcoins approaching 60%.
