A significant selloff in U.S. technology and artificial intelligence stocks has prompted crypto industry leaders to predict a potential shift of investor capital toward digital assets.
On Friday, the Nasdaq 100 declined 3.4% during afternoon trading, with individual tech stocks experiencing steeper losses. Intel dropped over 29% during the session, pushing the Nasdaq into correction territory—a decline of more than 10% from its previous high.
Analyst Outlook on Crypto Impact
Arthur Cheong, CEO and chief investment officer of Defiance Capital, an Asia-focused digital asset investment firm, stated that the tech sector underperformance could provide a tailwind for cryptocurrency performance over the next six months.
Cheong suggested that cryptocurrency investors who previously moved capital out of digital assets may return to reallocate funds back into the sector. He noted that crypto-native investors familiar with digital markets could view this as an opportunity to reenter the asset class rather than remain as "exit liquidity" in traditional finance.
Arthur Hayes, co-founder of the now-defunct Bitmex exchange and chief investment officer of Malestrom, an investment fund focused on crypto opportunities, offered a related perspective. Hayes suggested that artificial intelligence companies could become systemically important, leading to government intervention to support the sector through monetary expansion.
Hayes indicated this additional liquidity injection could subsequently flow into cryptocurrency markets. Both analysts framed the tech sector decline as a potential catalyst for capital reallocation toward digital assets.
