Prediction markets have assigned roughly 34% odds to bitcoin hitting $100,000 by the end of 2026, according to trading activity on Kalshi and Polymarket. The probability represents a pullback from elevated levels seen earlier in the month.
Kalshi's contract on the question climbed sharply in mid-September, rising from 17% on September 16 to a peak of 43% by September 22, following a short squeeze that pushed bitcoin above $86,000. The odds have since retreated as bitcoin slipped below $83,000 in late September.
Polymarket prices the same target at 34.5% for December 31, 2026, with probabilities extending further into 2027. The platform shows a 50.5% chance of $100K by March 31, 2027, and 81% by December 31, 2027, suggesting traders view the milestone as more likely in the medium term than in the next year.
At current levels, bitcoin would need to rally roughly 20% from $83,100 to reach $100,000 by year-end 2026. Bitcoin's recent peak exceeded $97,000 in January.
The recent pullback in market odds coincides with broader shifts in risk sentiment. Rising geopolitical tensions related to oil prices and expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October contributed to liquidations of approximately $500 million in crypto positions within 24 hours. Gold posted one of its sharpest one-day declines in two decades on the same move.
Higher price targets show diminishing probabilities: Kalshi traders price a $110,000 strike at 19%, $120,000 at 13%, and $150,000 at roughly 4%. The convergence of Kalshi and Polymarket pricing within 1.5 percentage points suggests broad agreement on the current assessment of $100K odds for 2026.
