Bitcoin rose 0.98% to $82,099.25 on Sunday, October 18, rebounding from earlier losses in a session marked by significant volatility.
The price movement coincided with market anticipation surrounding geopolitical developments. Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly proposed a trilateral summit with U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to reports of a phone call between Putin and Trump on October 9. The proposed venue is Shenzhen, where the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting is scheduled for November.
Price Action Details
Bitcoin first rose above $81,800 and peaked near $82,150 before sellers triggered a decline toward $81,000. The pullback lowered the price to just under $80,800 before buyers reversed momentum. Consecutive green candles drove recovery through the $81,000 and $81,500 levels, with Bitcoin subsequently breaking above $82,000. The $82,150 level remains a point to watch, while $80,750 marks the session's visible low.
Proposed Summit Framework
The trilateral meeting would reportedly focus on resolving the four-year conflict in Ukraine. However, the proposed framework would exclude Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, raising concerns among Kyiv's allies in Washington and Europe.
A senior U.S. official stated that Trump has not formally accepted the proposal. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said talks with the United States are ongoing but no final agreement or specific agenda has been confirmed.
The October 9 call between Putin and Trump also reportedly addressed U.S. demand for Russian diesel fuel and explored ways to facilitate the sale of Russian fuel in international markets.
