A Bitcoin wallet that remained inactive since April 2022 moved its entire 4,500 BTC balance in a single transaction, shifting approximately $378 million in value for a network fee of $1.10.
The same coins had been held by what appears to be a single owner since August 5, 2019, when they were worth approximately $53.2 million. The most recent transfer on September 25, 2026 sent the holdings to a newly created address, with no deposits to labeled exchanges recorded at the time of reporting.
Seven Years of Market Movement
The stash's value fluctuated significantly across its holding period. The coins were worth roughly $182 million when moved to a new wallet in April 2022. During Bitcoin's peak on October 6, 2025, the same holdings reached approximately $561 million in value. The holder did not sell at that peak.
Transaction Efficiency
The transfer paid 1,303 satoshis in fees to move $378 million across the Bitcoin network without intermediaries. The transaction included seven small outputs that had accumulated in the wallet between December 2024 and September 11, 2026.
Market Context
The whale's movement occurred during an active period for large Bitcoin holders. The same day, Whale Alert logged approximately 1,543 BTC leaving Coinbase and Kraken. The timing coincided with Bitcoin's price near $84,400 and elevated market sentiment indicators.
Since the coins moved to a fresh single-use address rather than an exchange deposit, the transfer likely represents a custody upgrade, key management change, or estate planning rather than a sale.
