Bitcoin Whales Hold Steady as Major Economic Events Loom

Bitcoin's largest investors are holding their positions as the asset trades below $80,000, apparently waiting for a series of major economic and regulatory developments expected in the coming days.

According to data from Santiment Intelligence cited by analyst Ali Martinez, Bitcoin whale holdings have remained largely unchanged at approximately 5.23 million units over the past week, suggesting these major market participants are avoiding significant accumulation or distribution activity.

Economic Events Set to Reshape Markets

The analyst attributed this caution to several significant events scheduled for the next 10 days. The first catalyst arrives with inflation data: the Producer Price Index (PPI) and, more importantly, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) are due out in the coming days. These figures are expected to influence expectations for Federal Reserve interest rate decisions.

Current market odds show a 60% probability of a September rate increase, though a Reuters poll found most economists expect the Federal Reserve to hold rates steady. The CPI reading could prove decisive in resolving this disagreement.

Crypto-Specific Catalysts

Beyond macroeconomic data, the crypto sector faces its own catalyst. The Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on advancing the CLARITY Act on September 15. The Federal Reserve's rate decision follows on September 16, accompanied by economic projections and commentary.

The sequence concludes with the Bank of Japan's rate announcement, which could add additional pressure to global bond and currency markets.

Bitcoin Consolidation Phase

Bitcoin has remained in a narrow trading range between $77,500 and $80,000 for approximately one week. Breakout attempts have been rejected at the upper boundary while the lower level has provided support during pullbacks.

With multiple major announcements arriving in rapid succession, market participants expect Bitcoin to exit its weeks-long consolidation phase and experience a significant price move.
