Clients of BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust redeemed $201.89 million worth of ETH exposure on October 6, 2026, representing the complete $202 million net outflow from US spot Ethereum ETFs for that day.
The withdrawal extends a six-day streak of redemptions from Ethereum ETFs. During the same period, Bitcoin ETFs have drawn inflows, suggesting investors are reallocating crypto positions rather than exiting the market entirely.
Single Fund Dominates Outflow
The iShares Ethereum Trust, trading under ticker ETHA, recorded the largest single-fund redemption among US spot Ethereum ETFs on October 6. ETHA holds the actual ETH asset, and when clients cash out, the fund redeems shares and its holdings shrink accordingly.
This is not ETHA's first significant withdrawal in recent months. The fund saw approximately $110 million in client redemptions on September 16, 2026, amid broader Ethereum ETF outflows totaling $224 million during that period.
Sector Remains Positive Overall
Despite recent outflows, cumulative net inflows into US spot Ethereum ETFs since their July 2024 launch stand at $13.549 billion. Total assets under management across the group sit at $17.356 billion, equivalent to 5.27% of Ethereum's overall market capitalization.
ETHA accounts for the overwhelming majority of net inflows into the category, with approximately $13.036 billion in historical net inflows as of early October 2026. This concentration means the fund's behavior significantly influences sector-wide flows.
Signs of Portfolio Rotation
Bitcoin ETFs recorded concurrent inflows while Ethereum funds experienced withdrawals, indicating potential portfolio reallocation among investors shifting crypto exposure between assets.
BlackRock's staking-enabled Ethereum product, ETHB, has also faced outflows in recent weeks. Staking allows ETH holders to earn yield by helping secure the network, yet the added income component has not prevented withdrawals.
Market Implications
Sustained ETF outflows can add selling pressure to the underlying asset. When funds redeem shares, ETH holdings are reduced, and that supply must be absorbed in the spot market. However, a $202 million day represents a meaningful but not existential impact on the $17.356 billion category.
The concentration of net inflows in a single product creates structural risk for the sector. When ETHA's client behavior shifts, it effectively sets the tone for the entire Ethereum ETF market.
