BlackRock's spot Ethereum ETF, the iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA), received $50.8 million in inflows on September 23, representing the largest single-day contribution to US spot Ethereum ETFs, which collectively saw $105 million flow in that day.
ETHA has accumulated net inflows exceeding $13 billion since launch, accounting for a substantial portion of the broader US spot Ethereum ETF sector, which has accumulated net assets surpassing $17 billion.
The $50.8 million inflow represented approximately 48% of all spot Ethereum ETF inflows on that day. BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF, IBIT, followed a similar pattern of early market dominance following its launch.
Staking ETF Shows Consistent Growth
BlackRock launched ETHB, a staked Ethereum ETF, in March 2026, offering holders yield on top of price appreciation. The product has not recorded a single day of net outflows since launch.
The availability of both ETHA and ETHB creates a two-pronged offering for different investor preferences. ETHA provides pure price exposure, while ETHB offers yield-bearing exposure for those willing to accept additional smart-contract risk from staking.
Institutional Preference for Regulated Structures
Institutions prefer ETF structures over direct token purchases for several practical reasons. Regulated funds offer professional custody, daily net asset value transparency, and integration with existing brokerage accounts. Many institutional investment mandates restrict allocations to regulated, exchange-listed products.
Spot Ethereum ETFs did not exist before mid-2024. Within approximately two years, the sector has grown to net assets exceeding $17 billion, establishing a market that rivals many established commodity ETF categories.
