South Korea's KB Securities has entered into a strategic partnership with digital asset tokenization platform Securitize and blockchain organization The Optimism Foundation to develop and distribute tokenized financial products for domestic institutional investors.
The agreement announced on September 23, 2026, combines KB Securities' capital markets distribution capabilities, Securitize's regulated issuance platform, and Optimism's Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain technology.
Phased Rollout Strategy
The rollout will occur in stages, with the initial phase targeting institutional liquidity products. The first launch will feature a tokenized money market fund issued on OP Mainnet, followed by a tokenized investment vehicle based on a flagship strategy managed by KB Asset Management.
As local regulatory frameworks develop, the companies plan to expand into tokenized equities, American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), corporate debt, and South Korean government bonds. A final phase will explore offering established global tokenized funds to South Korean institutional asset managers and wholesale clients.
Industry Perspective
Kang Jin-doo, CEO of KB Securities, stated that the partnership leverages specialized capabilities to establish tokenized securities for domestic institutional investors. He noted plans to monitor regulatory developments, expand global partnerships, and deliver innovative financial products.
Carlos Domingo, co-founder and CEO of Securitize, described the initiative as bringing tokenization infrastructure to Korea and bridging traditional capital markets with the onchain economy.
Jing Wang, CEO and co-founder of OP Labs, said KB Securities' adoption of OP Mainnet demonstrates the tokenization model works beyond U.S. dollar-denominated markets, expecting additional financial institutions to follow.
Regulatory Context
The announcement arrives as South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) continues establishing rules for security token offerings (STOs) and blockchain-based issuance mechanisms. Global institutional interest in real-world asset tokenization has grown, driven by clearing efficiency, automated compliance through smart contracts, and continuous market liquidity.
