A salmonella outbreak linked to broccoli sprouts has sickened dozens of individuals across six states, prompting an official recall and a production shutdown, according to data from the FDA.
As of September 24, 2026, health authorities confirmed 32 infections involving Salmonella Bovismorbificans tied to sprouts cultivated by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC, based in Moyie Springs, Idaho. The affected states include Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.
Reported illnesses began between July 7 and September 3, 2026. Out of the total cases, three individuals have required hospitalization, and no deaths have been reported. Epidemiological interviews of 27 patients revealed that 26 had consumed sprouts or microgreens, with 22 specifically recalling the consumption of broccoli sprouts.
Following the identification of the product link, Evergreen Fresh Sprouts halted its production and distribution operations on September 4, 2026, and initiated a root cause investigation. On September 10, the company issued a recall for 215 cases of 4-ounce bags.
The contaminated sprouts were distributed to grocery stores, restaurants, and foodservice customers within Idaho, Montana, and Washington, and may have been transported to additional states. Health officials are investigating this incident separately from a concurrent alfalfa sprout outbreak.
According to the CDC, epidemiologic, laboratory, and traceback data confirm that the broccoli sprouts produced by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC are contaminated with Salmonella Bovismorbificans.
