Intersect, a governance entity in the Cardano ecosystem, has recommended that stake pool operators (SPOs) upgrade their systems to patch a critical Linux flaw, according to AMBCrypto. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-98432, could allow an attacker to inject and execute malicious code remotely.
A high-severity kernel flaw
According to Red Hat's security brief, the flaw carries a CVSS severity score of 9.8 and has system-wide scope across major Linux systems, including Ubuntu, which powers Cardano. The issue sits in the Linux kernel subsystem that handles internet connections, specifically IPv4 TCP connections.
For Cardano, the risk is operational: an attacker could exploit a node, whether a block producer or a relay, potentially causing node crashes or data corruption.
What operators are being asked to do
Some Linux systems have already been fixed with relevant patches, and fixes for Ubuntu are being expedited. Intersect wants SPOs to upgrade swiftly once patched releases become available. Its guidance to stake pool operators includes:
- Check which kernel the block producer and relays are running.
- Apply the fixed kernel as soon as the distribution publishes it.
- Reboot after applying the update.
SPOs perform a role comparable to validators on Solana or Ethereum, processing block transactions, and each runs the Cardano node's system. Intersect oversees the Cardano codebase and treasury operations, while the Cardano Foundation and EMURGO handle the nonprofit and commercial arms, respectively.
The bug was initially flagged by Anthropic and affected several systems globally, underscoring both the security risks and benefits associated with AI models.
Sentiment slips as whales cluster near $0.19
Separately, ADA's sentiment has dropped to the fear lows seen in August. That earlier bout of fear preceded a 62% rally from $0.17 to $0.28, though it is unclear whether the current fear signal will prove to be another buying opportunity.
Some large holders appear to be treating the level as one. According to CryptoQuant data, whale activity has spiked near the $0.19 price zone. A similar pattern appeared in mid-September, when ADA dipped to the same area and the pullback stopped.
Why $0.19 matters
The $0.19 level has acted as support since late August. If whale activity and the near-term pattern repeat, buyers may defend it. In that scenario, the immediate bullish target cited would be $0.22, representing roughly 15% upside potential from the support zone.
The level is not guaranteed to hold. If Bitcoin records further losses, ADA sellers may attempt to crack the $0.19 support.
